‘Go for your life’ Kitchen Garden Project with Stephanie Alexander grants
In partnership with the Victorian State Government, and working within the ‘Go for your life’ health strategy, the Foundation is in the process of establishing 40 new school projects over a four year period (2007 – 2010) in Victoria. This government funding provides $2.5 million for the rollout of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program into 40 Victorian government schools with primary enrolments. Each successful school receives a grant of $62,500 over two years, with $12,500 towards building a kitchen and garden, and $25,000 per year, for two years, towards staffing the program. These grants represent part-funding for the Program, and schools are expected to contribute the balance from their own resources and community networks.
The first 20 schools commenced their Kitchen Garden Programs in January 2007 and are now delivering kitchen garden classes to their students each week.
Twenty-two new 'Go for your life' schools were announced in September 2008, to implement the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program in 2009–10. Please click here for the full list of the new 'Go for your life' Kitchen Garden Program schools.
